James H. “Jim” Rownd, formerly of Upper Arlington, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Tampa, FL. Jim was born February 15, in Columbus. Ohio. Graduated from Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, WV in 1941 and immediately enlisted in the US Army, fought in the South Pacific during WWII where he was injured and spent a year and a half hospitalized in the US. He attended the Ohio State University and received his law degree from Franklin University (now Capital) in Columbus. His law career in Columbus culminated in 2003 when he retired and moved to Tampa after receiving a 50 year recognition from Columbus Bar Foundation in 2002.

He was a member of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church in Marble Cliff, serving as an usher for 20 years. Past President of Agonis Club in Columbus receiving their Dom Tiberi Service Award in 2002, and Past President of Lawyers Club. He was a member of Blendon Lodge #339 AF&AM; Aladdin Temple Shrine, Reception Unit and Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, former member of Brookside Country Club, and an OSU Lifetime Alumnus.

Preceded in death by his parents; former wife; three sisters; a nephew and a niece, Susan Begley. Survived by his wife of 39 years Karen (McCormick) Rownd; step-son, Richard O..Ferguson and his family of NC; nieces, Carol (Mike) Starn, Columbus and Marilee (John) Peterson, Washington Court House; nephew , J.T. (Lois) Greshel, Okemos, MI.

Services will be held beginning with a Masonic service on November 15, 2013 immediately followed by Funeral Service at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel in Upper Arlington. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.

Harry Benjamion Jones, Jr.

Harry Benjamin (Ben) Jones Jr., 75, of Irvington, died on October 21, 2013. He was born in Mt. Hope, W.Va., son of the late Harry Benjamin Jones Sr. and Nina Holt Jones. Surviving are his wife, Susan W. Jones; his daughter, Laura Holt Jones and her husband, Paul Dery; his son, Harry Benjamin Jones III and his wife, Carol; his four grandchildren, Nathaniel Pepper Jones-Lang, Gabriel Pepper Jones-Lang, Milo Thelonious Jones and Oscar Santiago Jones; two step children, John Mason Ramey, III and Mary Kent "Molly" Ramey and two step grandchildren, John Mason Ramey IV and Caroline Griffin Ramey.
Mr. Jones attended Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, W.Va., Hampden- Sydney College, Hampden Sydney, and Washington and Lee University School of Law, Lexington. He was founding partner of Walker Jones, PC, Attorneys at Law in Warrenton.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington.

Kenneth W. Dotson

Kenneth Dotson, age 77, passed away at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia on Sunday, October 6, 2013. The cause of death was heart failure. Born September 18, 1936, in Lewisburg, West Virginia to Thomas and Rhoda Dotson, he attended Lewisburg High School, Greenbrier Military School and graduated from West Virginia University. Kenny bravely served his country as a helicopter pilot in the United States Air Force and served in the Air National Guard. He was the founder and owner of True Value Home Center for over 40 years. Kenny was an avid golfer and enjoyed square dancing, traveling, farming, and spending time with his friends and family. Kenny is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jacalyn Bennett Dotson; two sons, Brian and wife Renee of Morgantown, WV, and Bret and wife Krista of Stow, OH; six grandchildren, Sydney, Grace, Brittney, Kimberly, Cailin, and Kelly; one sister, Linda Vaughan of Lewisburg.; the mother of his sons, Helen Dotson of Lewisburg; four nieces, Kathy Dotson Camden, Angie Dotson Hill, Deanna Vaughan, Tracey Dotson Godby; and two nephews, Gary Dotson, Danny Vaughan. In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his three brothers, Thomas, Charlie, and Don Ray. Family and friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, until the 2 p.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Rosewood Cemetery. John Motley Carte

John Motley Carte, passed away at Hubbard House on October 3, 2013, at age 90.
The son of Virgil and Elizabeth Carte, he was born on Fort Hill in Charleston, just a few minutes after the birth of his identical twin, Jack. He would go on to attend Charleston High School and graduate from Greenbrier Military School. A combat veteran, John saw action in France and Germany in World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge. He would later serve in Korea as well. Discharged in 1949, he continued in the US ArmyReserves until 1961.

Retired from the State Assessor's Office in the 1980's, John married Alice Rogers carte in 1984. Together they enjoyed an active social life going to the races at Keeneland, traveling on the Orient Express and doing a tour of Beijing until Alice's passing in 1998.

John was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Carte Townsend (2011).

John suffered a stroke in 2007 and had been a resident of Heartland Nursing Home since then.

John was quick with a joke and a one-liner and loved telling a good story making him popular party guest, especially in his earlier bachelor days. He loved a new car, a smart-looking dinner jacket, getting a new gift tie, his and Alice's pet miniature schnauzers-especially his favorite, Oliver Cromwell. He and brother, Jack, loved to rib each other and play practical jokes.

He is survived by his brother, Jack Kendall Carte; niece, Connie Hirth, Washington, D.C., and Sharon Carte.

The family expresses its gratitude to those Heartland staff, who were caring of John these past years, and for the comfort provided him at the last by Hubbard House staff.

Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, October 7, at Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee St. West, Charleston with Rev. Jeff Allen officiating. Entombment with military graveside rites will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Kenneth S. Pond

Colonel Kenneth S. Pond, 78, of Wilmington, NC, passed away at home Thursday, October 3, 2013. He was born October 18, 1934 in Raleigh, NC to Mozelle and Clifton Pond. Ken spent his early years in Raleigh and, through family misfortune and tragedy, at the Masonic Orphanage in Oxford, NC, before later reuniting with family in Norfolk, VA. His brother, Gene Pond, predeceased him in 2012. Ken is survived by Miriam "Mimi" A. Pond, his wife of 49 years, their daughter Kendall and her husband Bill Williams, of Wilmington, his son Kenneth "K.C." Pond and his partner Jack Markey, of Washington, D.C., two granddaughters, Emilia and Ava Williams, also of Wilmington, and many beloved relatives. During a highly decorated career that spanned six decades, Ken served our nation as soldier, diplomatic representative, and senior federal executive. From 1957-1987, he was a Company Commander in the Old Guard, the official Presidential Honor Guard. He was an Army Airborne Ranger in Vietnam, Battalion commander at Fort Banning, GA, Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Command in Vicenza, Italy, and senior Army Advisor to North Carolina's governor and adjutant general. From 1987 to 1994, Ken represented the American Battle Monuments Commission at the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy. Later, as the Commission's Executive Director, Ken oversaw operations at all overseas U.S. military cemeteries and monuments. As a fitting capstone to a long and distinguished career, and under the direction of Presidents Bush, Clinton, and Bush, Jr., he was instrumental in the creation of the World War II Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Ken retired from the federal government's Senior Executive Service and relocated to Wilmington in 2004, where he was an Honor Flight spokesperson and volunteer. Ken attended the College of William and Mary, the Army Command and General Staff College, and the National War College, and earned degrees from the University of Nebraska and Georgia State University. His many military awards include four Legion of Merit medals and three Bronze Stars. North Carolina's governor presented him with the Distinguished Service Medal and inducted him into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and the American Battle Monuments Commission awarded him two Distinguished Service Medals. Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, warrior, and a truly great American. He lived life to the fullest and exemplified the "Can Do" American spirit which led him through some of the most historic events of the last century. From humble roots and orphanage life, Ken dedicated himself, with great enthusiasm and great devotion, to his family, our country, and our veterans. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, at St. Andrew's on the Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Road, Wilmington. A full honor funeral and interment in Arlington National Cemetery will follow at a later date. James Albert Simmons

Retired Master Sergeant James Albert Simmons (78) of Deltona, Florida, with his family beside him, passed from this earthly life on 09/12/2013 at the Halifax Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County in Orange City, Fl. Retired Master sergeant Simmons was born in Cumberland, MD on May 5, 1935 to the late Albert and Mary (Hook) Simmons. He attended Paw Paw High School in Paw Paw, WV graduating in 1953. He also attended Greenbrier Military School before entering the United States Army in 1956. Retired Master Sergeant Simmons served 26 years with honor and distinction throughout these United States of America and many foreign countries including Vietnam, Korea, Germany and Thailand, retiring from service in 1980 while stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. After retiring he attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN earning a BS in Business. Retired Master Sergeant Simmons was an active member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening,woodworking, card games, had a great sense of humor, and was an avid supporter of the American Indian. Retired Master sergeant Simmons was preceded in death by his brother Lynn Joseph Simmons of Schertz, TX and a son Timothy Albert Simmons of Lawrenceville, GA. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Patricia Ann (Cadigan) Simmons , one son James Lynn Simmons and wife Caralynn of Washington, MO, one daughter Teresa Ann Brewer and husband Jackie of Newbern, TN., along with 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren . A military service will be held at a later date. Retired Master sergeant Simmons wishes were for donations to be made to the Disabled American Veterans and Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in lieu of flowers. Lee Maxwell Lockhart

Lee M. Lockhart, 72 of Hobe Sound, FL who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend to many, died peacefully August 8, 2013 after a valiant fight against lung cancer. Lee was born in Covington, Virginia and was the son of the late Mildred (Polly) Hefner and Herbert Lockhart of White Sulphur Springs, WV. He attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV and proudly served his country as a Sharpshooter in the U.S. Army.
Lee began his over 50 year career in the resort and golf industry at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Over the course of his career he helped lead some of the most prestigious and successful resorts and golf properties across America including The Homestead, Pinehurst, Sea Pines, Amelia Island Plantation, Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort, Grand Cypress, Lake Lanier Islands Hotel and Golf Club, and Muirfield Village Golf Club. In addition to the Resort business, Lee also worked for the Marriot Hotel Corporation in national sales and marketing.
He not only will be remembered for his contributions to the creation and management of numerous resorts and golf properties, he will be remembered by the countless number of people he helped along the way. Lee was a long-time friend and business associate of Jack Nicklaus and was a senior executive of the Nicklaus organization for over 20 years. In 2006, he founded Trophy Golf & Resorts and served as the company's President until his death.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Jan. He was the proud father of Brian Lockhart, of Lewisburg WV, and Robert Lockhart of Atlanta, GA. He recently got to see his son Robert marry his fiancé, Ashley in Stuart, FL He leaves behind two grandchildren, Ryan Lockhart of White Sulphur Springs, WV and Aaron Lockhart of Lewisburg, WV
Services will be held at the Forest Hills Young and Prill Chapel in Stuart Florida on Saturday, August 17th. There will be a gathering from 1-3 for friends and family with a Celebration of Life Service starting at 3pm. Donations can be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice or American Cancer Society.

George Lawton Lemon

George L. Lemon, MD, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

Born June 1, 1921, and reared in West Virginia, George attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV, West Virginia University, and the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Lemon practiced medicine in public health service from the Marine Hospitals of Baltimore, MD, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. From 1947-65,he practiced in Lewisburg, WV, many of those years with his father , Dr. Charles Lemon. In 1965, George took a position at Ohio University in health service and sports medicine. From 1969 -86, he served as the director of the emergency room at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.

Upon retirement, George and his wife, Bernice, embarked on many missions to better the lives of others, both locally and abroad. For six years they worked with Black Teens for Advancement (BTA) in Atlanta, GA. This organization was started by young men in predominately black high school and between other high schools. Before George left the program, it had grown to over 4,000 involved students. Many of those student prospered and started programs in troubled schools in other cities and states and were invited to Switzerland, Germany, and Norway to explain their methods to school officials, students, police forces, and government leaders.

George also worked nationally and internationally with the Moral & Spiritual Re-Armament Association (MRA) , contributing his medical service to that organization, made up of musical ambassadors to Romania and Poland.

A true gentleman, George will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, witty charm, and love of God that overflowed in the manner in which he ministered and cared for his family , his patients, and later for children throughout the world. The following poem that George penned in May 1993 embodies how he lived his life.

And God said.
"Take my hand and I will lead you.
Throw away your sins and I will forgive you,
Bow your head and I will protect you.
Know my Word and K will use you.
Pray constantly and I will hear you.
Listen quietly and I will speak to you.
Do my work for my glory and I will bless you."

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs Charles W. Lemon Sr.; brother and sister-in law, Charles Jr. and Norma Lemon; and brother Joseph Lemon. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, sons, daughters, grandchildren as well as his nephew George L. Lemon and wife, Becky,of Lewisburg, WV.

Charles F. Erickson

Charles F. Erickson went to be with our loving Lord July 4, 2013.
He was born in Man, W.Va., the son of Charlie O. and Ethel Erickson. Charles graduated from Greenbrier Military School and attended WVU before joining the military. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He then joined his father, C. O. Erickson, in business. Together they built Durfees Cable Company into the largest cable operation in West Virginia Charles also built cable systems in Virginia., Kentucky, and Michigan.

Charles and his father both felt strongly about the importance of higher education to the future of W.Va. and to the country. After C.O.'s death in 1993, the Erickson Foundation was formed. Charles promised his father he would run the foundation focusing on providing a home on West Virginia colleges and university campuses for alumni to remain connected and involved with each institution. To date there are 13 Erickson alumni centers throughout West Virginia.

In May, 2011, Charles was inducted into the Order of Vandalia, WVU's highest honor, and in 2005 he was named Mountaineer of the Year. In May, 2013, he received an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Concord University.

Charles leaves behind his loving wife, Laurie; two sons, Charles II (Lynn) of Washington, N.C. and Brandon of Boca Raton, Fla.; his grandson, Chase, who was the light of his life; two sisters, Donna Tulley of Savannah, Ga. and Myra Scott (Lee) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV.

Service will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 12, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend W. Douglas Hood from his church in Fla. and Reverend Michael Seely.

Burial will follow at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with military rites by the American Legion Post #15.

Wright Hugus, Jr

Wright Hugus, Jr., age 82, of Fairfield, CT the beloved husband of 34 years of Elizabeth (Thomas) Hugus of Weston, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013. He was born in Wheeling, WV to the late Wright Hugus, Sr. and Martha (Majesky) Hugus.

He graduated from Duke University and subsequently was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy where he served in the Korean War as a Naval intelligence officer and aide to Admiral Wayne Sabin. In 1959 he graduated from the University of Virginia Law School. He practiced law throughout the US and abroad with a specialty in Sports Law and Sports Management thus founding Hugus Enterprises in Greenwich. Following his retirement in 1994, he owned and operated a Good Humor Ice Cream truck and was well known in Fairfield County serving countless children and adults.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children , Stephanie Racz of Dorset, VT.; Christin O'Neill of Stratford and Wright Hugus, III of Denver, CO; and grandchildren, Bryan, Robin, Wright IV and Morgan.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday June 25, 2013 at 11 am at First Church Congregational,148 Beach Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in the church's Memorial Garden.

Duane Charles Parsons

Duane Charles Parsons, age 70, of Rome, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.
He was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on December 1, 1942, the son of the late Decoe Parsons and the late Pauline Virginia Detamore. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Max D. Parsons.

Duane was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School, Class of 1959. A long time resident of the Washington, DC area, Mr. Parsons moved to Rome in 1995 with his family. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Gearin Parsons, one daughter; Kirsten McGee and her husband Dylan, three sons; Derek C. Parsons and his wife Kate; Damien C. Parsons, and Devin C. Parsons and his wife Audrey. His sister Jan Bishopp, five grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews also survive.

Paul Ellis Prillaman, Jr.

Dr. Paul Ellis Prillaman Jr., died on Monday, May 20, 2013, after a brief illness.

A private memorial service is planned.

Paul was born in Beckley, W.Va., the son of Dr. Paul E. Prillaman Sr. and Sally Haller Prillaman.

He was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School and the University of Virginia where he received his undergraduate and medical degrees. After completing his surgical residency and thoracic surgical fellowship, he joined his father in surgical practice in Ronceverte, W.Va. In a partnership spanning ten years, they provided selfless medical care to the residents of Greenbrier County. From 1972 until his retirement, Dr. Prillaman was a partner in Bradenton Surgical, working at Blake Medical Center and Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.

Paul’s greatest joy was his family, serving as their constant support. He will be remembered for his generous and humble spirit, as well as for his wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ginger; three children, Elizabeth Woolford and husband, Jim, Sarah Prillaman, and Paul Prillaman and wife, Hannah; five grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Bauer and Jacqueline Oler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CATLETTSBURG — Robert R. Hatfield, 79, of Catlettsburg, died
Wednesday evening, May 15, 2013, at his residence.

Bob was born Dec. 29, 1933, in Ashland, a son of the late Grover
and Lillian Thornsbury Hatfield.

He was the former general manager of Machinery Incorporated and
was a U.S. veteran.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Berry and her husband, Tom;
sisters, Peggy Thirion and her husband, Tim, and Jean Woods and
her husband, Charlie; brother, Clancy Hatfield; and grandson
Robby Berry, all of Ashland; and special nephew, Beau Martin and
his wife, Katie, of Nashville, Tenn.

“Big Bob” as he was affectionately called by friends and
family, wanted to express his love and appreciation to all his RC
racing buddies and his dear, dear friends at the Cannonsburg
Methodist Food Pantry.

The family has chosen to grieve privately and wishes to thank
everyone for their love and prayers.

Harold E. "Punk" Starcher

Harold E. "Punk" Starcher Jr. died May 6, 2013, at his home in Ripley, W.Va., after a long illness. The son of Margaret M. and Harold E. Starcher, Punk was born August 13, 1928, in Logan, W.Va., the product of the first successful Caesarean section performed at Logan General Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia "Ginny" Rae Jolliffe, who preceded him in death, and the father of two children, Mark L. Starcher (Paige), McLean, Va. and Ann R. Starcher, Charleston, W.Va. He bragged incessantly about his two grandchildren, John E. Starcher, New York, N.Y. and Margaret R. Starcher, Graz, Austria.
Educated in Ripley primary schools, Punk was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School, where he played football. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir and was attached to the 101st Airborne Division in Kunsan, Korea, where he was executive officer and acting company commander.

After the war, Punk graduated with a civil engineering degree from West Virginia University and did postgraduate studies at Purdue University and the University of California, Berkeley. His engineering work with Kaiser Aluminum and General Electric Corporation allowed him and his family to travel the world with assignments in Australia, Brazil, California, England, Jamaica, Maryland and New York.

In the early 70s he returned to Ripley to start a construction company, Chartwell Corporation, and pursue real estate development. He was an active member of the Ripley community, an elder and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley and co-founder and first president of the Jackson County Development Authority. A joint memorial service for Punk and Ginny Starcher will be held at 1 p.m. on June 7 at the First Presbyterian Church, 210 Cedar Lakes Drive, Ripley. William Hall Allman II

William H. Allman, II, age 73, passed away, Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Grandstrand Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.
Mr. Allman was born August 13, 1939 in Clarksburg, West Virginia a son of the late William Hall and Gladys Bailey Allman. William was pre-deceased by a son, William H. Allman, III of Tabor City, NC.
Mr. Allman was a graduate of the Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia, where he graduated he graduated as a Cadet Commander. He attended West Virginia University. William enlisted in the US Army in 1960 where he served four years upon completion of service Mr. Allman was a Sergeant and in charge if information for the Commanding Officer of Fort Gordon, Ga.
After Military William chose a career in Broadcasting where he managed Radio Stations in Michigan, West Virginia, and North and South Carolina. His greatest passion was broadcasting sporting events for Myrtle Beach High School Athletics as well as Coastal Carolina University. Mr. Allman is the longest living lung reduction recipient which was performed at MUSC in October of 1999.
Mr. Allman is survived his wife of 51 years, Paula G. Allman of Myrtle Beach; one son: Paul C. Allman of Myrtle Beach; 3 grandchildren: William C. Allman, Paul C. Allman II, and Aubrey M. Allman all of Kernersville, NC; a brother and sister-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. David C. Allman of Bridgeport, West Virginia.

John J. Hadley,69, of Marietta, OH, died at his residence on Saturday, April 13, 2013, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on July 14, 1943, in Marietta, OH, a son of the late Harold B. and Virginia M. Sendelbeck Hadley.

He attended Washington Elementary School, Marietta, OH, Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, WV, and graduated from Marietta High School in 1961 where he was a member of the 1959 undefeated Marietta Tiger football team. He attended Marietta College, where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1965.

He proudly served the Marietta area community as a funeral director for nearly 50 years, helping people in one of life's most difficult times of need.

John was appointed to the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors for the State of Ohio and served 3 terms, a total of 15 years, as one of five funeral directors selected by the governor for the position. In this capacity, he enjoyed meeting and mentoring young apprentices and helping to prepare them for careers as funeral directors as well as ensuring the integrity of the funeral profession throughout the state of Ohio.

He was honored to further serve the Marietta community as a member of the Board of Directors of Settlers Bank.

He was a lifetime member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Marietta, OH.

John was a member of Harmar Lodge #390, F & AM, Marietta, OH. Also, he was a member of Nemesis Shrine, Parkersburg, WV, where he proudly served as Potentate in 2008. His devotion to the fellowship and philanthropy of the Shrine was unparalleled. He was a member of Marietta Shrine Club, Marietta, OH (Past President 1977), Central WV Shrine Club, Clarksburg, WV, Lewis County Shrine Club, Weston, WV, Ohio Valley Shrine Club, Parkersburg, WV, Wirt County Shrine Club, Elizabeth, WV, and Tyler County Shrine Club, Sistersville, WV, where he was appointed as liason beginning in 1998 and where he truly belonged. He was an honorary member of the Motorized Unit of Nemesis Shrine and a member of Ben Bey Grotto, Parkersburg, WV.

He was a devoted member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court #156, Parkersburg, WV, where he served as Director in 1999 and as Impresario since 2000. He also acted as President of South Atlantic Shrine Association Jesters in 2005. "Digger" was a member of Jesters on Wheels and loved riding his custom purple Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

John was the Chairman of the City of Marietta, OH, National Clean-Up Campaign from 1967-1970 during which time Marietta won an award for being one of the 10 best small cities in the country. He also won the Outstanding Young Man Award in 1967-1968 from the Marietta Jaycees.

He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #477, Marietta, OH, and Loyal Order of Moose #1823, Marietta, OH. John also was a member of the Professional Car Society, where he served 3 years as President.

John is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Barbara Lois Bonar Hadley whom he married on June 21, 1980. He is also survived by his son John "Rob" Hadley (Pamela) and their children Kyle (Kathryn) and Trevan O'Keefe and Desiree Schmitz of Marietta, OH, his daughters Jamie Hadley Godsey (Craig) of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Lois Virginia Hadley Beckman (Matt) of Gahanna, OH, and his brother H. Lee Hadley (Ruth) of Newport, OH.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike Street, Marietta, OH with Roger Rush and Pastor Steve Mahaffey officiating. Visitation will be observed all day on Tuesday April 16 at the funeral home. Raymond "Bill" Morton, jr. age 85 of Terra Alta, WV formerly of Potomac, MD passed peacefully April 3, 2013 R Montgomery Hospice House. He was born on April 27, 1927 in (Camden-on-Gauley) West Virginia to Regina and Raymond Morton, SR. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Mabel M Morton ; children, Sue A. Windsor and her husband Patrick of Silver Spring, MD., William B. Morton of Poolesville, MD., and Mary Jane Selph and her husband Duncan of Leonardtown, MD; loving grandfather of Nicole, Natalie and Craig Morton; and Ryan, Caitlin and Chad Selph. He is also survived by his loving brother Joe H. Morton of Rockville, MD and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard A. Morton.
Bill was a retired Cartographer who worked for the Army Map Service. He served in the U.S.Navy from 1945-46. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School , Lewisburg, WV in 1947 and graduated from West Virginia University , School of Geology in 1951

Bill and his wife Mabel have enjoyed many happy years of retirement on the community of Alpine Lake Resort , West Virginia. where a celebration of Bill's life will be held later this year.

Interment will be private.

Raymon William "Bill" Morton Jr., passed away on April 3, 2013. Services will be held later in Tera Alta, WV.

Bill underwent heart surgery at John Hoipkins on February 3 of this year wher he received two (2) valve repaired and two (2) artery obstructions cleared.

Bill was a 1947 graduate of Greenbrier. He was among the most loyal of graduates and was in attendeance at most GMS reunion held in October of each year. From the small WV community of Camden-on Gauley, Bill and his brother Dick and Joe, were heavily involved in athletics and school life.

For the historians, The Morton brothers live in the basement of Major Bob and Carolyn Harris while at Greenbrier as rooms were in short supply due to the returning veterans of WWII.

Bill and Mable have live in Tera Alta, WV for the past several. His brother Dick passed several years ago and brothe Joe continues to live in Maryland.

John Thomas Anderson “Tom” , 86 passed away March 31, 2013. He was born February 20, 1927 in Charleston, SC. He retired from South Carolina Gas & Electric Company after 27 years of service.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ann and son David. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Thomas Anderson.

Began employment with the South Carolina Power Company in Charleston, SC as a junior draftsman . Relocated to Columbia, SC in May 1952 with the South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCANA Corporation). Design and drafting, working primarily in the section of electrical switchboard design, protective relaying and control systems and in the design and installation of the first supervisory (remote control)systems for electric and gas substations and hydro electric generating plants. Progression from draftsman to Senior draftsman to electrical Drafting Supervisor to Chief Drafting Supervisor (1952 – 1975). Transferred to Charleston, SC, as Director of Systems in July of 1977. Responsibilities included as in-depth economic study of the Metro Charleston transit system.
Promoted to Executive Assistant in October 1978. Acting manager of Gas Operations for Metro Charleston 1980-82. Responsibilities included the operation and maintenance of a natural gas distribution system with approximately 50,000 customers. Promoted to Executive assistant to the Vice President and Group Executive for Customer Operations in May, 1982.
Accepted Early retirement in April 1983 with 36 years of service
During the next six years, he work in various community positions until his full retirement and moving to Ponte Vedra Beach Florida in 1990.

John C. Crow, 67, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2013, at his residence in Youngstown, OH. John was born Sept. 23, 1946, in Youngstown to parents John C. and Lucy (Inglis) Crow.

John was a 1964 graduate of Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV.

John served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer during the Vietnam conflict as a helicopter pilot. He was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star while serving during his duty call.

John worked for Austintown Schools as a bus driver. He enjoyed golf and loved riding in his 50th anniversary Corvette. Anyone that knew John will always remember him for his laid back attitude and appreciation for life.

John is survived by his sister, Sara (James) Williamson of McDonald; nephews John (Jessica) Williamson of Farmdale and James (Michelle) Williamson of Vienna; and a great-nephew, Cody J. Williamson. Preceding him in death are his parents.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 31, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. Interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. ESDEL BEANE YOST, 78, of Huntington, went home to Heaven on
Sunday, March 13, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was a
widower of his beloved wife and mother of his children, Sylvia
Jean Vernon Yost. He was born on June 19, 1932 in Eckman, WV a
son of the late Sterling and Zola Ballard Yost. He is survived by
a daughter, Sharon Kay Kuhn of Lakeland, FL and her children
Melissa Kathryn Lauer and her husband Michael of San Antonio, TX
and Mark Selvey of Farmingville, NY, and Michael Selvey of
Bartow, FL; son, Bernard Eugene Surber, Jr. and his wife Alma and
their children Pamela Ford, Bernie Surber III and Bryan Surber of
Louisville, KY; his dearly loved sister-in-law, Kathryn Pardue
and her family; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and
nephews. Mr. Yost accomplished much in his 78 years. He worked in
U.S. Civil Service 1960, He graduated from WV University College
of Law in 1962, was awarded a WV University Doctor of
Jurisprudence in 1962, honored in the WV Law review in 1962,
served on the Supreme Court in 1971, was awarded the honor of
Commonwealth of Kentucky Colonel in1974, the U.S. Court of
Appeals in 1993, Served in the United States Army and was an
attorney for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He practiced law
for many years and was known for his expertise in all legal
issues. He still practiced private cases until January of 2011.
He was deeply loved and will be missed by all. Funeral services
will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Fellowship
Baptist Church, Barboursville, with Dr. Jerry Warren officiating.
Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens,
Barboursville. Friends may call one hour before the service at
the church. Beard Mortuary is assisting the family. In lieu of
flowers the family suggests that expressions of sympathy take the
form of donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude

Larry Edward Short

Larry Edward Short of Fayetteville, WV passed and went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2013 after a long illness surrounded by his family.
Larry was born on July 12, 1937 in Kayford, WV. A graduate of East Bank High School, he also took a post graduate year at Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV and attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV.
He was an avid baseball and football player during his school years. He met Judy while she was still in high school and they were married and lived in West Virginia, Connecticut, and had their final careers in Palm Beach County, Florida. In 2000 they returned to West Virginia, making Fayetteville the final retirement location.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Judy Short, his daughters Vickie (and her husband and wonderful son –in-law) Reinie Wendt; granddaughter, Nicole Schumacher (who is married to Robert Schumacher) and Layla Schumacher, his great granddaughter; his daughter Kelly Short and her children/grandsons, Clark and Grant Poston of Vermont.
Larry is also survived by his sister, Mary Short Agardi and husband, George of Midlands, NC, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Larry loved hunting, fishing and anything outdoors his entire life. He had lifelong friends and was always willing to lend a hand when he could. His friendships could be witnessed by their duration and loyalty. Larry loved his family immensely and was happiest when everyone could be with him. He loved to sit and listen to Judy play the piano and keyboard.
This strong , devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend will be terribly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday January 25, 2013 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home with Pastor David Sneed and Pastor Ron George Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
