William Thomas Jones ‘58
Tom Jones of Charleston and Elkview, WV, passed away on September 7, 2016, due to dementia/Alzheimer's, brought on by reactions to surgical anesthesia. He was born on September 13, 1940, to Dempsey D. (deceased) Jones and Virginia Jarrett Jones. He was married for 51 years to Patricia Hunt Jones, the love of his life.
Tom was a successful businessman having owned Mountain Trucking and later on Quick Delivery Service. He was a Fleet Admiral in The Great Kanawha Navy, having been a member for many years. Tom attended Elkview High School, graduated in the Class of 1958 at the Greenbrier Military Academy, Annapolis Naval Academy, and Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston).
Besides Pat, Tom's other great love was his sternwheeler boat, the Miss Sterling. His greatest joy was showing people the Miss Sterling, which he lovingly rebuilt and restored with family and friends. Tom enjoyed entertaining, NASCAR, fishing, boating, and fast vehicles of all kinds. A devoted family man, he was kind, generous, and compassionate, tirelessly helping many people and organizations, without seeking recognition.
Besides his wife, Pat; and mother, Virginia, Tom is survived by his son, Bill (Melissa); grandson, Jared; granddaughters, Kaylee and Kylie; great-grandsons, Chance and Dalton; uncle, John Jarrett (Carol); sisters-in-law, Eileen Comstock, JoAnn Hunt, and Linda Hunt. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Bill Comstock (Debbie Zegeer), Pam Thompson (Eddie), Michael Hunt (Susan), Lisa Hunt, Dave Comstock, David Comstock IV, Emmett Comstock, Jordan Hunt, and Alyssa Hunt. He was pre-deceased by his brothers-in-law, Keith Hunt and Dwight Hunt.
The family would like to thank the staff at Braley Care Homes in Hurricane for their kind and gentle care.
Service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clint Chiles officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Tom's name to the Ronald McDonald House, 302 30th St. SE, Charleston, WV 25304.Online condolences can be made at www.haferfuneralhome.net.
