John Thomas Anderson “Tom” , 86 passed away March 31, 2013. He was born February 20, 1927 in Charleston, SC. He retired from South Carolina Gas & Electric Company after 27 years of service.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ann and son David. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Thomas Anderson.

Born Charleston, SC, February 20, 1927. Married Ann Virginia Poston May 25, 1949. One son, David Michael, born October 8, 1961
Education:
Graduated primary school in Charleston, SC and college preparatory school (Greenbrier Military School) in Lewisburg, WV. Attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC . Additional training in business management at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC and through various International Correspondence School courses.
Career Summary:
Began employment with the South Carolina Power Company in Charleston, SC as a junior draftsman . Relocated to Columbia, SC in May 1952 with the South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCANA Corporation). Design and drafting, working primarily in the section of electrical switchboard design, protective relaying and control systems and in the design and installation of the first supervisory (remote control)systems for electric and gas substations and hydro electric generating plants. Progression from draftsman to Senior draftsman to electrical Drafting Supervisor to Chief Drafting Supervisor (1952 – 1975). Transferred to Charleston, SC, as Director of Systems in July of 1977. Responsibilities included as in-depth economic study of the Metro Charleston transit system.
Promoted to Executive Assistant in October 1978. Acting manager of Gas Operations for Metro Charleston 1980-82. Responsibilities included the operation and maintenance of a natural gas distribution system with approximately 50,000 customers. Promoted to Executive assistant to the Vice President and Group Executive for Customer Operations in May, 1982.
Accepted Early retirement in April 1983 with 36 years of service
During the next six years, he work in various community positions until his full retirement and moving to Ponte Vedra Beach Florida in 1990.
Community Activities:
Chairman of the Richland County Family Court Advisory Board in 1975; Chairman Blood Donor recruitment Committee American Red Cross1977; Member of Advisory Committee of Industrial Drafting; President and Chairman of the Board, Navy League; Chairman of the Red Carpet Committee;
Member of the Board of Directors, Kiwanis Club; Member of the Board American Heart Association; and Volunteer Assistant, Baptist Beaches Medical Center.

Past Master, Columbia Masonic Lodge Columbia SC; President, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company Forman’s Club; President, South Carolina Electric and Gas Pivot Club; Former member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Columbia, having also served as Secretary y of the Vestry; former member of Old St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Charleston, SC., President of the Men’s Club.;
