Alternatively Consider a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) for your Scholarship Donation.

A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from an IRA to a qualified charity. There are three distinct benefits from using this method:

• The distribution counts toward meeting the annual required minimum distribution (RMD).
• The amount is excluded from your taxable income.
• May reduce other deductions and credits e.g. taxable Social Security benefits or Medicare surtax.

QCD Ground Rules:

• Must be 70.5 years old in year of distribution.
• Funds must come directly from IRA custodian.
• Transfer must be made payable to the charity, in this case, the "Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation – GMS Leadership Scholarship Fund."
