John Henry Wick III Obituary

John Henry Wick III died peacefully at his home in Richmond, Virginia on December 14, 2025, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary, and their children: John (Susanne) and Cameron (Brooke), all of Richmond, and his daughter Mary Price Reath (Tim) of Annapolis. He was the proud grandfather of Timmy, Henry, Coleman, Stuart, Ellie, Jack, and Blair. He also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, two sisters in law, Keith Straw and Nina Peyton, and many beloved West Virginia cousins who remained close to his heart throughout his life.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Wick Jr. and Marjorie Backus, and by his sister, Susan Wick Sieg.

Born in New York and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, John attended the Greenbrier Military School and graduated from West Virginia University. He and Mary moved to Richmond in 1969. Over the course of his career, he served in roles that reflected both his work ethic and his wide-ranging interests, including as a purchasing agent at Philip Morris, in commercial real estate sales at Harrison Bates, and as Vice President of Dickinson Fuel Company in Charleston, WV.

John deeply loved his family and took great pride in his West Virginia heritage. He was especially devoted to Mary, his lifelong companion. Known for his warmth, generosity, and readiness to help anyone in need, he formed close and lasting friendships throughout his life. He contributed meaningfully to the Richmond community through volunteer work with the Hand Workshop Art Center, Grace & Holy Trinity Church, and the Westmorland Place Association.

He cherished time on the water at his river house, where he loved entertaining friends of all ages and backgrounds. John also enjoyed playing golf at the Country Club of Virginia and cards at the Commonwealth Club.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for John, with special appreciation to Asia Giles for her devoted and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held at Grace & Holy Trinity Church in Richmond, Virginia on January 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. A second service and burial will take place in Charleston, West Virginia this spring.
