Frederick N. Cooke, 86, of Nitro, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Freddie was born on August 27, 1929 in Hinton to Fred and Lillian D. Cooke, he grew up in Nitro and began working for his father at the Fred Cooke Funeral Home when he was 16. He was a graduate of Nitro High School, attended WV Wesleyan College, and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science after which he became a licensed funeral director and embalmer and continued to work in the family business. He was a past president of the WV Funeral Directors Association and was active in the Nitro Civitan Club. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Freddie was preceded in death by his wife Wilma, parents Fred and Lillian, and his brother Brent.

He is survived by his daughter Dorothea of Denver, CO, brother Roger A. Cooke of Nitro, sister Cheryle Painter of Miami, FL and other relatives and friends.

A service to celebrate Freddie’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 13, 2016 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church on Friday.
