Edsel Bean Yost

ESDEL BEANE YOST, 78, of Huntington, went home to Heaven on
Sunday, March 13, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was a
widower of his beloved wife and mother of his children, Sylvia
Jean Vernon Yost. He was born on June 19, 1932 in Eckman, WV a
son of the late Sterling and Zola Ballard Yost. He is survived by
a daughter, Sharon Kay Kuhn of Lakeland, FL and her children
Melissa Kathryn Lauer and her husband Michael of San Antonio, TX
and Mark Selvey of Farmingville, NY, and Michael Selvey of
Bartow, FL; son, Bernard Eugene Surber, Jr. and his wife Alma and
their children Pamela Ford, Bernie Surber III and Bryan Surber of
Louisville, KY; his dearly loved sister-in-law, Kathryn Pardue
and her family; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and
nephews. Mr. Yost accomplished much in his 78 years. He worked in
U.S. Civil Service 1960, He graduated from WV University College
of Law in 1962, was awarded a WV University Doctor of
Jurisprudence in 1962, honored in the WV Law review in 1962,
served on the Supreme Court in 1971, was awarded the honor of
Commonwealth of Kentucky Colonel in1974, the U.S. Court of
Appeals in 1993, Served in the United States Army and was an
attorney for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He practiced law
for many years and was known for his expertise in all legal
issues. He still practiced private cases until January of 2011.
He was deeply loved and will be missed by all. Funeral services
will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Fellowship
Baptist Church, Barboursville, with Dr. Jerry Warren officiating.
Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens,
Barboursville. Friends may call one hour before the service at
the church. Beard Mortuary is assisting the family. In lieu of
flowers the family suggests that expressions of sympathy take the
form of donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude
Childrens’ Research Hospital in Esdel’s honor. Online
