Webster Clay Nohe, Jr. of Vienna, WV, left this world peacefully in his sleep September 25, 2015, to be with the Lord.
He was born on November 1, 1925 in Parkersburg, WV the son of the late Clay and Mary Pickering Nohe.
Web was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV. Active in both World War II and the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Navy in Oct. 1943 and advanced to Signalman third class in Aug. 1944. He was stationed in Oran, Algeria and Palermo, Sicily. He was honorably discharged in 1946, graduated from Marietta College, and returned to the Navy in 1949. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and was once again honorably discharged in 1952. He returned home just months before the birth of his son to work in real estate and property management until his retirement. In his younger years, Web was always very active and enjoyed handball, weight lifting and running. Those who knew him know of his long love affair with his wife’s poached eggs , large bags of M&M’s and Tootsie Pops. He enjoyed his twilight years watching the cardinals, hummingbirds and squirrels outside his bedroom patio. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 65 years (November), Dottie A. Nohe of Vienna. They were married in Carmel, CA while he was serving in the Navy. He is also survived by his children, former WV State Senator David C. Nohe (Pam) of Vienna and June Nohe-Fairchild of Vienna. He was always “Dee” to his grandchildren, Jennifer Holzapfel (Jeff), Diana Wilson (Josh), Trey Fairchild (Heather), and Adam Nohe (Jessica; and six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Audrey, Julia, Easton and Kate.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Mt Olivet Cemetery I Parkersburg, where he will be buried next to his parents, with Rev. Fr. John Gallagher officiating and military rites by Parkersburg American Legion Post # 105.
