Walter H. Kropp

KROPP Walter H. Kropp, passed away on January 9, 2012 at the Wesley Ridge English Garden in Reynoldsburg. Mr. Kropp was a retired Savings and Loan Association Executive and prominent Mason. He was the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Franklin Federal, Ohio Federal, and Mid America Federal Savings and Loan Associations of Columbus, Ohio. He retired in 1987. He was a distinguished 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and served as the Presiding Officer and Deputy for Ohio, along with notable service on the governing Board of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite in Lexington, Massachusetts. He functioned as a former member and officer of many Boards including; President of the Board of Trustees of the Columbus Public Library, Executive Committee of the United States League of Savings Institutes, Chairman of the Ohio League of Savings Associations, Thrift Advisory Committee to the Federal Reserve Board in Washington D.C., Vice Chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, Camco Financial Corporation of Cambridge, Ohio Chamber of Commerce, Elford Inc General Contractors, Columbus Home Builders Association, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer of the First Congregational Church, Downtown Kiwanis Club, Bexley Historical Society, the Columbus Club, and the Athletic Club of Columbus. During World War II, he served with distinction as an Infantry Captain in Italy and Germany, and was awarded the Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star and two Silver Star Medals for valor. He attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia, Denison University, and Ohio State University in Ohio. He was predeceased by his mother and father Vernon Rose Shawaker Kropp and Walter C. Kropp, and two brothers Franklin A. Kropp and Richard V. Kropp. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Thornburgh Kropp; son, Walter B. and Kathy Kropp of Columbus; and son, Karl V. Kropp and Julia Sullivan of Reston, Virginia. Also beloved grand-children, Walter W. (Will) and Sarah Jane Kropp of Columbus, Richard A., Andrew K., Patrick R., and Karl Aidan Kropp-Sullivan of Reston. He was an active member of the Athletic Club of Columbus and an avid golfing member of the Columbus Country Club. Family will receive friends Friday from 4-6 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State Street. Memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 444 E.
