John Leonard Kisner

JOHN LEONARD KISNER, 77 - entered into rest on December 10, 2012 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville. The son of the late John Hupp Kisner and the late Elizabeth Leonard Kisner and a native of St. Albans, WV, Mr. Kisner settled in Greenville in the mid-1960s. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Grace (Mangum) Kisner, a son John Kisner II (Nina) of Austin, TX, a son Harrison Kisner of Greenville, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Kisner of Greenville and a sister-in-law Patricia Mangum of Augusta, Ga.

Mr. Kisner graduated from Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV and received a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1960. In 1961 he married Grace Strauss Mangum of Augusta, GA, his constant companion in work and in life. He had a lifelong love of technology and helping people use and understand it in their businesses. After beginning his career with IBM and working with Riegel Textiles, he opened his own software business in 1974, making many friends of clients and employees over the years. He received the Order of the Palmetto from Governor John C. West.

A longtime member and Deacon of Fourth Presbyterian Church, Mr. Kisner was passionately involved in work to better the Sterling Community near Downtown Greenville. He received excellent care from the doctors and nurses of the 5th Floor/Oncology team at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown, in recent months. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to these brave and kind men and women. Memorials may be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 East Washington St., 29601 for use in Sterling Community Ministries. Funeral service to be held at 11am Friday, Dec. 14th at Fourth Presbyterian Church after private committal service at the Memorial Garden of the church. Family will receive visitors in the Graham Fellowship Hall following the service.
