Obituary for Joe H. Morton

Joe Hamilton Morton , 95, of Easton, MD. passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 21, 2025. Joe was born on March 19, 1929 in Camden-On-Gauley, WV. He is survived by his sons Joe D. Morton(Debbie Jackson), John H. Morton(Lauri) and daughter, Jennifer Morton Boudart(Chris); seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, after 73 years of marriage, and his parents, Raymond Morton and Regina Morton.

Joe graduated from Greenbrier Military School in 1948 and West Virginia University in 1951. Soon after graduation, Joe was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in U.S. Army when he was called to active duty in 1951, during the Korean War. Following his service, Joe relocated to Washington,D.C., following his brother’s advice on employment opportunities. He worked first at GEICO and then later at the Department of State. Joe worked there for 35 years, initially as a special agent, serving both domestically and overseas, retiring as an Assistant Director. Upon retirement from the Department of State, Joe worked for several years at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Upon retirement, Joe relocated to Eastern shore of Maryland, embracing the lifestyle in Easton, MD.

Joe enjoyed every minute of his 95 years. He had boundless energy, whether it was working in the yard or on the family mountain cabin in West Virginia or dancing with his beloved wife, Betty. His two brothers, who preceded him in death, Richard and William were his best friends; although, he had many friends far and wide and from many walks of life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:00 am-12:00 Noon at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home,200 Harrison Street Easton, MD. with a service to follow at 12:00 Noon. There will be a private internment at a later date at Parklawn Cemetry in Rockville, MD.
