Retired Master Sergeant James Albert Simmons (78) of Deltona, Florida, with his family beside him, passed from this earthly life on 09/12/2013 at the Halifax Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County in Orange City, Fl. Retired Master sergeant Simmons was born in Cumberland, MD on May 5, 1935 to the late Albert and Mary (Hook) Simmons. He attended Paw Paw High School in Paw Paw, WV graduating in 1953. He also attended Greenbrier Military School before entering the United States Army in 1956. Retired Master Sergeant Simmons served 26 years with honor and distinction throughout these United States of America and many foreign countries including Vietnam, Korea, Germany and Thailand, retiring from service in 1980 while stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. After retiring he attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN earning a BS in Business. Retired Master Sergeant Simmons was an active member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening,woodworking, card games, had a great sense of humor, and was an avid supporter of the American Indian. Retired Master sergeant Simmons was preceded in death by his brother Lynn Joseph Simmons of Schertz, TX and a son Timothy Albert Simmons of Lawrenceville, GA. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Patricia Ann (Cadigan) Simmons , one son James Lynn Simmons and wife Caralynn of Washington, MO, one daughter Teresa Ann Brewer and husband Jackie of Newbern, TN., along with 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren . A military service will be held at a later date. Retired Master sergeant Simmons wishes were for donations to be made to the Disabled American Veterans and Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in lieu of flowers. We miss you, but know your are un a better place today.
