Mr. Earl Carter Martin, Jr., 64, of Charleston, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Charleston on Nov. 7, 1951, a son of the late Earl Carter Martin and Patricia Fawn Twaddle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Knight Martin. He attended George Washington High School and then graduated from Greenbrier Military School. He was educated at Marshall University and West Virginia State College. Carter spent his working career as a safety manager at Union Carbide after serving in the United States military. He was an avid golfer, hiker and dog lover. Carter enjoyed dancing. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Mountaineer and Thundering Herd sports. He loved spending time with his family and granddaughter.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Peter Markham of Charleston, and his son, John Carter Martin of Asheville, N.C.; his granddaughter, Addison Knight Markham of Charleston; and six sisters, Lynn White, Pam Martin, Jane Rowsey, Beth Altizer and Robin Moore, all of Charleston, and Kelly Mardis of Pennsylvania.
Memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home, Charleston. The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Saturday.The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25311.
