Allen Edward Kivett, 84, passed way Sunday September 25, 2016 at Camden Place Health and Rehabilitation, after a gallant fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
A funeral service was held om Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at West Market Street United Methodist Church, Greensboro. Interment followed at Westminster Gardens Cemetery in Greensboro.
Allen was born December 7, 1931 in Randolph County, NC to the late Sulon Benson and Alice Hughes Kivett. He was a graduate of Asheboro high School attended National Red Cross Aquatic School, greenbrier Military School and received his BA Degree in Business Administration from Greensboro College. Allen proudly served his country during the Korean War. While in the Army, he had the responsibility of overseeing the fuel distribution from the terminal at Busan.
Allen worked for Greensboro College as Director of Admission for 14 years. Also, he was Honorary Vice President of the Alumni Board, former treasurer of the Alumni Association and was instrumental in the establishment of endowed scholarships for student athletes. In 1974, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award at Greensboro College. Allen also worked for Pilot Life Insurance Company, Manpower development and sales and Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance Company now Lincoln Financial Group, as an estate planner.
He was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and usher. Allen was also on the board pf directors, Methodist Camp Guilrock. He was President of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro from 1997 to 1998, and the Lt. Governor District8, Kiwanis International, Carolina District from 2003 to 2004. Over 40 years ago, Allen founded and was chairman of College Night for Guilford County Schools, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
Allen was a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association, Chairman of the Eagle Project Review Board, Old North State Council and committee member of “Friends of Scouting”. Allen was awarded the Silver Beaver Award of the Old North State Council of Boy Scouts, which is the highest award for service to scouting. Some organizations he volunteered for were the American Red Cross as water safety instructor, and Mobile Meals in Greensboro.

In additions to his parents. Kivett was preceded in death by his son, Allen Wyke Kivett and his brother Meredith H. Kivett. He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Dr. Vira Rodgers Kivett; daughter, Martitia “Marty” Kivett Richardson and husband, Keith, and his brother, Odell Kivett and wife Patty. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews
