MAYFIELD HEIGHTS — John L. Weppler, age 74, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2015, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, following a two-month illness.
He was born March 26, 1940, in Conneaut, the son of Ernest L. and Mary Virginia (Fisk) Weppler. John was a 1959 graduate of Greenbrier Military School.
He began his career as a heavy equipment operator and retired after nearly 30 years as a supervisor at M.F.G. He was a confirmed Episcopalian and was a member of the Conneaut Lions Club, the Conneaut Elks Club, the Conneaut Lighthouse Cruisers, and was also a member of the former Conneaut Jaycees. He enjoyed showing his 1958 Ford convertible, model railroading, and watching Nascar racing. He was also an avid Ohio State football fan. John also enjoyed golfing and played in the Senior Golf League at Village Green.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie (Chadwick) Weppler whom he married July 28, 1962; daughter, Christine Fernandes of Dublin, Ohio; son, John L. “Jay” Weppler Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; a grandson, Zachary Fernandes a student at Ohio University; two sisters, Caroline (John) Palo and Sarah (Lou) DePlacido, both of Conneaut; and nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Weppler; and a nephew, Ricky DePlacido.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 17th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Nancy Guthrie, pastoral assistant at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio.
Calling Hours will be at the Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and also Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of Service. The Lions Club will conduct Memorial Services at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Conneaut Firefighters Association or the Conneaut Railroad Museum. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
