Lieutenant Colonel (US Army Retired) Joseph F. Lemon passed away December,17, 2011 in Lewisburg, WV. He was born in Claremont, WV to Dr. Charles W. Lemon, MD and Mary Virginia Lawton Lemon on Augus 3, 1918. The family moved to Lewisburg in 1932.

He attended Greenbrier Military School from 1932-38. He attended West Virginia University studying engineering and left school to join the US Army in 1942. He was assigned to the 78th Infantry (lightning) Division, Artillery, Camp Butler, NC. He deployed to England in October 1944 and to France in November 1944. He returned home in May of 1946. LTC Lemon served 21 years and 11 months. His tours of duty included Korea, Berlin,Germany; Trieste, Italy; Camp Zuma,Tokyo, Japan; Fort Sill, OK; Fort Chaffee, Ark; Fort Huachuca, AZ; and White Sands Missle Range, NM; and as an US Army recruiter in New Orleans. He retired in 1963 at Fort Sill, OK and returned to college to finish his degree. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with his Engineering Degree in 1965. He returned to Lewisburg to care for his mother. He was a supporter of Greenbrier Military School Alumni, West Virginia University, the 78 Division, and Oklahoma State University.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Charles W. Lemon, Jr and wife Norma Wallace Lemon. He is survived by his brother Dr. George L Lemon, MD (Bernice) of Nashville, TN; his nephews George L. Lemon (Rebecca Cutlip Lemon) of lewisburg, where he lived. Ted C. Lemon, Atlant, GA; nieces Virginia Lemon Strand (LTC John), Leavenworth, KS; Susan Jo Lemon Williams (Dana) Nashville, TN; Krin Lemon Valentine (Craig) and Laura Lemon Rhodes (Michael) both of Colorado Springs, CO; Barbara Lemon Esdale (Phillip), Birmingham, AL; 19 great nieces and nepphews and 15 great, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 2PM at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
