Bobby Lee “Bob” Hager, 88, of Richmond, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond

Bob was born to Cuba Nelson and Homer Hager on March 4, 1928 in Hamlin, West Virginia. He attended Hamlin High School where he fell in love with a curly-haired beauty, Oberita Plumley, whom he later married. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School and attended Marshall University.

He liked to brag that he was 3 hours short of being a sophomore. He worked for 20 years at his parents’ business, Hager Supply, in Hamlin, WV, and he began his building career in Hamlin where he built two homes for his family. Bob and Oberita Hager moved to Richmond in 1967 after Oberita received her Ph.D. at Ohio State and she was offered a teaching position at EKU. Unhappy with his new job in KY, Oberita encouraged Bob to quit his job and build them a home and thus he began building homes all over Madison County. Building homes grew to include building apartments and Hager Rental was founded in 1969. Bob was using so many cabinets in his homes and apartments that he opened Hager Cabinets in 1975 where he was his biggest customer. Bob was the proud founder of the Hager Hobblers, an elite Richmond running group that sported bright orange and blue jerseys at numerous racing events for decades.Many of his his dearest friends were members of that ragtag group.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Leigh Pack of Richmond, KY; two grandchildren, Robin Lynn McDaniel and Joshua Hager Pack and one great grandchild, Elleigh McDaniel all of Richmond, KY; one son, Aaron Jones of Apopka, FL and his former son-in-law, Jim Pack.
