Paul Lee Everett, III Obituary
A resident of Elk Grove, Calif., since 1977, passed away on June 29, 2009, at the age of 70 after a long, courageous battle with prostate cancer. To the end he was a Southern gentleman.
Lee, son of the late Julia Taylor Everett and Paul Lee Everett Jr., was born and grew up in Suffolk, Va. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, WV, and Virginia Military Institute in 1961 and married his high school sweetheart, Betty J. Womble, that same year.
After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, Lee returned to the states with his wife and baby daughter to begin his career as a civil engineer. They moved to California, and Lee went to work for the California Dept. of Transportation. Then he was blessed with a second child, a baby boy, Paul Lee Everett IV. He retired as a Senior Bridge Engineer in 2003 after 39 years of service with Caltrans.
He was a member of The American Society of Civil Engineers, Professional Engineers in California Government, and Sons In Retirement El Dorado Branch #23.
Before his health declined, Lee enjoyed backpacking and fishing. He also loved traveling and taking cruises with his wife Betty and his brothers and sister. A favorite destination of his was Alaska. He was a loving husband, and a devoted father and grandfather. When he wasn't traveling he enjoyed spending time with his family and his two miniature dachshunds Jack and Rascal.
