Dr. Steven Hunter Hatfield, 75, died suddenly at home Aug. 29, 2015 in Alexandria, LA after years of enduring Parkinson's Disease. He was born Nov. 29, 1939 in Huntington, WV to Lucy Balmaine and Hallie Rexford Hatfield.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Barbara Scott Hatfield, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at LSUA, mother Lucy Balmaine Hatfield, daughter Amy Marie Short and her mother Diana Blake, grandchildren Kasey Marie and Hunter Lee Short, brother Dr. Bart Hatfield and his wife Marit, and niece Kristin Abraham and her husband Jiju.

Steve attended Barboursville, WV public schools and Greenbrier Military Academy, and he graduated with a degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech. He earned his Ed.D. from the University of West Virginia and was a math professor for his entire career at Marshall University, where he taught many generations of students.

Steve knew the Lord Jesus as his Savior and was active in church throughout his life serving as a Presbyterian elder and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and tennis and later in life watching college ball games, especially Marshall's "Thundering Herd". He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles. This sense of humor was demonstrated in the unusual "educational" gifts he gave to his family.

Steve enjoyed meeting people and was friendly and easy going. Bobbie and Steve enjoyed years of international travel and visited every state in the U.S.A.
